I completely understand that we don't want our kids to eat sugar all day, but schools seem to be getting a little rediculous. I wish I could give my daughter some cupcakes or cookies for her party but they aren't on the approved-foods list. In fact, the only things on that list are pre-packaged crackers, pre-packaged carrots and celery sticks, and I think pretzels. Caida has a halloween party today but she is not allowed to wear a costume unless it is during the hours of 2 and 3. Then she has to take her costume off before she can get on the bus. They are not allowed to wear any face paint (not even cute little freckles :( ) or have fake tatoos, nothing violent looking, no fake blood or zombies...I'm suprised they allow stickers. haha.
Anyway, Caida's witch costume has a lot of lace and is very hard to put on, even with help from me, but she still wanted to look pretty for her party. It was fun putting things together that fit the dress code, and I think she still ended up looking awesome! I know that school rules are becoming more strict everywhere, but I can't wait for her year at Crisman to be over with, so we can find her a better school! Even with that being said, she is going to rock her halloween party and have tons of fun. I am so happy she is in kindergarten this year, and she gets to experience all these awesome activities. :)
I hate how some schools are becoming, too. I've been in several that are allergy-conscious but still allow lots of choices and fun times. And I've been in schools like Crisman that...don't. I don't like those. But kudos to both of you for sticking through it! You're right, half the fun of school is figuring out how to "do your own thing" while keeping in line with the school rules. Your creativity will help Caida get the most out of whatever experience she has! And she looks DARLING. :)
ReplyDeleteShe looks cute!! I know what you are talking about!! When we were kids we had a Halloween parade at school and parties in the classrooms. Now the schools don't do parades anymore and you can't bring any homemade treats (because there are so many kids with allergies). That never seemed to be an issue when we were growing up though!! We can take candy still (although that gets expensive sometimes, especially if you have more than one child). Carlie's school doesn't even celebrate Halloween or any other holiday for that matter, but I am still sending a treat!!
